Hey all, long time no update! The regular season for ESEA and CEVO are just about to end, and while we are taking the #1 seed in CEVO-A playoffs (with 3 FFWs out of 8 matches…), we probably won’t be making the ESEA-O playoffs, and with a little luck will finish the season exactly .500 :) Which is a little disappointing, as we had to give up 3 matches without a fight due to roster issues and forfeits. We played our ashville matches with only a day’s preparation, but now with those out of the way we’re scrimming badlands in order to finish off the season strong, playing carnal gaming and the terribles next week.

Regarding CEVO playoffs, you can check out the newspost here, which also includes a link to the future brackets. 2 matches per week, with viaduct, gullywash, and coldfront being the first 3 maps played. There are a bunch of decent teams that are set to make playoffs as well, most notably Dinosaur Bones/Team Explosion, who forfeited to us on freight I believe to focus on their ESEA matches, which are both on Thursday (match day for CEVO as well). Natures with yaug seems to be the other team to beat in playoffs. Apparently, winning CEVO-A means we get a chance to go up against a Valve team, so we shall see if we end up with that chance :)

Sigma and co. have come up with a new Focus Fire Episode! Now hosted here at www.orztf2.com.

This time on Focus Fire, Jestr, Breather and I take a look at another match from across the pond. From the ESH Sennheiser Challenge Final, we have TCM vs idk in a tight game on badlands. The playstyle of both teams here is surprisingly passive, but the game is good nonetheless. Just remember — never gg until it’s actually impossible to cap last!

In other news, ESEA-I playoffs was the big news of the week(end) for the TF2 community. Complexity (coL) came up on top, but Blight put out a really solid performance, surprising a bunch of people (me included). I think most of the ESEA LAN finals can be summed up with this video right here, featuring relic from coL:

The frag video for the series, as many people have said, is going to be pretty insane (if they actually make one). Some very intense matches too, the demos are up on the ESEA website so go take a look!

Hey all just an update on what we’ve been up to. We decided to keep me on med, and to pick up an active backup solly. We are talking to someone (with experience on a mid/high team) who is interested in filling in for us and helping us out with some strats, but I won’t know for sure until a week or so later. If you still think you’d like a chance at a tryout, talk to me anyways and we’ll try and fit one in for you.

We’ve also been watching the ESEA-O playoff series, with Gpit this week leading to 3 upsets, unfortunately including AG :( Definitely an intense game, most of us were in mumble watching most of the 3 rounds (joining the party late because of a scrim that dragged for a while). Gravelpit is definitely one of those funky maps that benefit from some funky strats – spies, snipers, engies, natasha heavies kritz, suicidal pushes, the whole deal. Also a good deal of airshots because of the verticality of the control points – you gotta get control of the roof at B if you want to have a chance to hold/capture. It was pretty neat to see how different teams came up with their own unique set of tricks to get an edge – sniper picks on med are extremely deadly on B, so be sure to watch both B and C entrances. Panda always reminds us to stand on the C-side cliff while defending B to prevent a lucky sniper from getting a headshot. This also allows you to make them pop uber (if they come from C) early on, and away from the gun that is usually on the shady side of B for defense. We can definitely put up some of our gpit ideas in a separate post too.

We have officially ended our TWL season 5 with a loss in our first round playoff match against Perplex/Variance (J4F changed their name, sorry!). We took freight 3-1 with Sigma’s triple jump strat (details in a future post), had a couple of bad judgment calls that made us stop our momentum a few times, but good, solid strat play. We then played badlands to a loss of 1-3, where they just outplayed us at mid, countered our ravine jumps by having traps all over their traincar, and I couldn’t get up top without taking spam and dying to their scout duo (which did a fantastic job doubleteaming me in house all the time). By this time we were all pretty exhausted and it showed in our fragging. It went to a full 2 hours (each of the 3 rounds lasted a full 30 minutes) after our last granary round ended with them taking 4 rounds to our 1. A couple of really good holds and pushes but still not enough as they definitely capitalized on our mistakes and made use of their uber advantages much better than we did.

All in all, a VERY exhuasting night but some very solid play by us, if I may say so :D Leia said that we should go out for icecream, and on top of that I think we’ve all earned a good week or so break from TF2, now that we are officially in the offseason. BUT don’t worry we’ll be back :D For those of you waiting for a tryout, you might have to wait a little bit longer :) Sorry!

And for those of you just dropping by to check out our blog: bookmark us, register and leave us some comments, we’d love to hear from you as well. Definitely going to get some more content up since we’ll be scrimming a little less for a while.

So last night the team had quite the lengthy discussion and scrim session in which we, in a nutshell, decide to be a more aggressive and versatile team. We may not have the best DM, but we’re going to try and make up for that with smart, aggressive play, taking full advantage of any mistakes that the enemy team makes. Tonight we get to try out this new philosophy for the first time =O Panda also typed up a very nice post on our private Google Groups discussion detailing our previous ‘issue’ with our fixed, textbook strat calls and play styles and how he thinks we need to move forward, look forward to that post appearing here soon :)

As for our roster, we have come to the conclusion that we need an experienced soldier or medic to join, not necessarily in a starter role, but who will split playtime with the current starters given our real life schedules. I fully expect to be able to play on even ground with most TWL Div2 teams by the end of the offseason, before CEVO/TWL starts up again. But, we will need one more soldier/medic to help us out. Are you qualified? Know someone that is? You know who to contact :D

Baldy, Chrono, and Leia will split starter scout duties, depending on a) the time of day for hardworking Chrono on the east coast, b) whether or not Mexico or other Central American countries are currently having a civil war, preventing baldy’s packets from making it to our American servers, and c) Leia’s burrito cravings. Panda and Biznich will split starter duties with whoever we pick up (unless we pick up a solid medic, in which case I become that 3rd solly). Luuser will carry, and we will continue to train modopo as a backup scout/utility when he’s not too busy waxing his hair or slamming birdies on the badminton court.

But in the meantime, 1oEST TONIGHT! Against a fully capable, up-and-coming low/mid team as well, J4F. Should be a good one, if we don’t end up doing silly stuff. connect 206.123.125.73:27020 come watch , even if we do end up sucking :p maps will be freight, granary, and badlands.

Just a few tidbits about league play and such. Site is now at www.orztf2.com, and we have a twitter feed too, for quick updates on what we’re up to.

Announced a while ago, CEVO is starting up, and we’re probably going to join CEVO-A Central. Interesting to note: there’s a random team in the professional division that I’ve never heard of; anyone else know who they are?

ESEA-O playoff seeds are announced! Rooting for Sigma and the AG guys =O And while we’re at it, the current TWL Div3 playoff bracket shows us going up against Origin IF we manage to make it past Just4Fame :) And after that, my bet is that Spacebots will take it from Target Practice.

We are also still looking for a soldier or a medic to join up for next season, contact us if interested :D

So we have our first TWL Div 3 playoff match tomorrow, against Team Perplex/Just4Fame.  To be honest, I don’t think we’ve ever scrimmed these guys before, so I have no idea what to expect :D Most people seem to think they have a good shot at winning playoffs, so that’ll be a comfort if we end up losing. Hopefully we’ll post up some demos and mumble recording afterwards, if I can get my laptop set up with Audacity to record.

EDIT: Update – we’re going to reschedule for Sunday because of the client timeout issue on steam/tf2 :( Oh valve and their coders. We’re also having problems getting our laptops to record mumble with audacity – thanks to Buddah for scrounging up a 3.5mm cable to record a scrim for us :D Should have that up later.
