Hey there qtpies. Just another update as I’m having difficulty remastering some of the more crucial jumps and rollouts and I don’t want to put a jump out without being consistent with it myself. So basically another teaser video with a couple jumps today. I’ve got a list of 10 more things that I want to accomplish before the end of December so look forward to that. I’ll probably get the rollout video out last. If there is interest I’m thinking of adding an actual hopping tutorial with keypresses in the future, seeing as these are mostly examples. I might also put in some pug clips where I absolutely shit on people with some of these .
Just a quick update to let you guys know that the TF2 competitive 6v6 LAN finals have arrived. ESEA has a lot of coverage for this event and I’ll be posting links for STV demos and interviews below. Although it will only a three team LAN because a lot of drama involving EG. flame and some questionable decision-making by lpkane that can be found here, it’ll still be very interesting.
This will also be a little introduction post. I alias as Mike nowadays but used to alias as Healbot. I played Medic for countless fail teams with Midnyt before finally joining some form of vPolice for a couple weeks. After that I pretty much went on and off as Medic and Scout for sometime. I now play off-Soldier for orz and usually Sniper/Spy/Heavy . We will also be welcoming Gravegun, who will be playing Scout, to the team a good friend of mine and long time sexual partner.
I’ll throw in a nice LAN prediction article from a very respected Medic, Sigma, which can be found here. That’s all right now in the world o NA TF2. We’ll be updating a lot more hopefully since we’ve pretty much hammered out our team .
Update: The finals have been played. Congratulations eMg.

Yes according to the schedule, preseason for the 6th season of CEVO TF2 starts this week. Most of you should have gotten your scheduling emails already! Usually the two weeks of preseason is reserved for playtesting new maps – this season, the two maps are koth_ashville, a custom king of the hill type map made by mackey from eMg, and cp_coldfront, which was actually played last season in ESEA but recently became an official TF2 map that Valve put out with the engineer update.
orz has not scrimmed on this map yet, and we won’t decide on if we want to play preseason until later this week, depending on schedules and such. I’ll try and update this post if we get a scrim in to let you all know how the map is.
There are a few fairly new custom maps coming into the rotation for both ESEA and CEVO. The ones I’ll highlight today are cp_obscure (week 6 of CEVO) and cp_coldfront_rc2 (week 3 I think for ESEA).
The first map is obscure, made by Byte who plays for an European team, TCM (and used to play for FakkelBrigade). You can get the rc3 version HERE, or check his website for the latest releases. This is a map we will have to learn for CEVO. After Valve released the snowy themes for TF2, it feels like a lot of the custom maps use them now, which is sad because my frames drop horrendously on maps like koth_viaduct. Maybe it’s the weather (which I have to remember to turn off…), but in 24 player pubs I get maybe 10-20 fps.
The next map is cp_coldfront, which is on rc2. You can also download it here, or check the TF2maps thread for the latest updates. This came out fairly recently, but has already been approved to be in the ESEA rotation for this season. Comments are mostly positive for the map created by the same person who made cp_waste, a map that most people are iffy about because of how slow it plays out (similar to cp_well). Unfortunately, waste has been in the TWL rotation for 2 seasons now, maybe they’ll take it out this season?
Today (Wednesday) is the first official match of CEVO season 5 for us. Scheduled on badlands vs. Team What! (who we remember scrimming from way back in our reverseHarem days – although I’m pretty sure they’ve had roster changes since then), we’ll be playing at 11:30EST/8:30PST tonight. Badlands has, sadly, always been one of our weaker maps, but we’ve definitely come a long way since we first started out. We have been trying more aggressive strats and faster pushes, but we still choke up when making transitions during pushes.
In the past week though, we seriously considered ESEA after being approached by one of the new admins, Killing, offering us a few (2) free Premium accounts, which is a common incentive the old admins used to use to get more teams to sign up. However, the higher-ups at ESEA (not the TF2 admins, necessarily) are being as strict as ever with everything, and in the end we just decided it wasn’t worth the effort. Not enough competition at our level, plus a map rotation that could definitely use some work (koth_sawmill and cp_coldfront), and the possibility of serious scheduling/roster issues discouraged us from signing up. ESEA requires 2 matches per week, and although we would have dropped CEVO, we realized that we would probably burn out quickly from frustration and scheduling around real life obligations. Just to make things clear: we would’ve loved the challenge of ESEA, and would love to post about our thoughts and experiences going through the league as a low-mid team to share with all of you, but then we would run the risk of spending cash on a league that would end up being more of a frustrating chore than an enjoyable challenge.
So, responding to Leia’s post below about having a team not die, an important thing I’d say is to discuss these things with the whole team if you intend on sticking together for the long term. And of course we’re all still busy as ever – school, work, MOVING UP IN THE WORLD :3 But we always seem to find time for TF2. We are still toying with the idea of finding a solly to complement our roster, and we’ll see how that goes.
