Here it is.

We’re playtesting a 5 CP version of Gorge right now (it was actually designed & built as a 5-CP push map originally, and then converted into a short Attack/Defense to see how the community reacted). It’s working out well, so it’ll probably be in the next update. As usual, we’ve got other prototypes in the works, including a new map built around the new game mode we’re working on.

It’s a interesting read. I think the tf2 beta is definitely a step in the right direction. I remain hopeful for the new gamemodes. KOTH is a relatively new gamemode that has made its way into comp. If they can come up with a few other good modes, I think it’ll breathe life into tf2 like hats never will be able to.

I was hoping they would talk about the new demo system they announced was being worked on over a year ago, and never said anything more about it. Am I the only one that remembers that?

An update came out a couple days ago with plenty of great changes, including raw mouse input, tweaks to accel, and a decent amount of bug fixes:

Updates to Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: Source, Day of Defeat: Source and Half-Life 2: Deathmatch have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:

Source Engine Changes (CS:S, DoD:S, TF2, HL2:DM)
[Windows] Added support for raw mouse input. Raw input reads directly from the mouse, bypassing Windows control panel mouse settings. This addresses issues with high DPI mice, and provides for a more reliable controller experience at various resolutions
[Windows] Improved custom mouse acceleration
[Windows] Updated mouse configuration UI to support raw input and acceleration; added tooltips to some of the options
[Windows] Fixed UI tooltips so that they display correctly on first hover

Team Fortress 2
Added the “Team Spirit” paint can.
Added Telltale Games items:
Dangeresque, Too?: Strong Bad’s styling glasses (equipped by the Demoman)
License to Maim: Max’s Badge (equipped by all classes)
The Iron Curtain: The Heavy’s first love (equipped by the Heavy, obviously)
The Enthusiast’s Timepiece: Tycho’s favorite timepiece (equipped by the Spy)
Updated some item capabilities:
Employees badges can now have custom names.
The Stickybomb Jumper can now be gift wrapped.
The Spine-Chilling Skull and Voodoo Juju hats are now paintable.
Improved the Spine-Chilling Skull and Voodoo Juju hat positions on the Sniper.
Added the original Ubersaw taunt to the Vita-Saw.
Fixed an issue that prevented the game from running on Fat32 systems.
Fixed a problem with the Sackston Hale achievement sometimes not being awarded correctly.
Fixed the holiday gamestartup sound files being included in the random startup selection after the holiday is over.
Fixed numerous WebAPI issues.
Fixed a Heavy exploit that let him run at full speed while shooting.
Fixed a Frontier Justice exploit that let Engineers have infinite crits for their current life/round.
Fixed the shotgun reload animations for the Soldier/Pyro/Heavy looping endlessly.
Fixed the Medigun charge percent for other players being steppy.
Fixed not being able to light arrows after the first arrow is fired unless they’re drawn back.
Updated the localization files

Just a quick update to let you guys know that the TF2 competitive 6v6 LAN finals have arrived. ESEA has a lot of coverage for this event and I’ll be posting links for STV demos and interviews below.  Although it will only a three team LAN because a lot of drama involving EG. flame and some questionable decision-making by lpkane that can be found here, it’ll still be very interesting.

This will also be a little introduction post. I alias as Mike nowadays but used to alias as Healbot. I played Medic for countless fail teams with Midnyt before finally joining some form of vPolice for a couple weeks. After that I pretty much went on and off as Medic and Scout for sometime. I now play off-Soldier for orz and usually Sniper/Spy/Heavy :) . We will also be welcoming Gravegun, who will be playing Scout, to the team a good friend of mine and long time sexual partner.

Well, after not scrimming for about a week, last night we got rolled on gpit by PUG.NA.

Its fine tho, because the polycount update just WENT LIVE. I need a scout hat, anyone wanna trade? :3 Post in the comments.

So despite all the scheduling and scrimming for the past week (no, we didn’t scrim well a single time to be honest), we ended up with two forfeit wins last Friday, which was kind of a bummer. Our opponents for our CEVO match didn’t show up, and the other team we were playing for ESEA couldn’t get enough people, in part due to client issues. So, our first week passes by rather uneventfully, but we get our first real test of the season this Tuesday against Businessmen for viaduct (2nd out of 4 viaduct matches!), with two more viaduct matches possibly on Thursday (since it is the map for CEVO this week as well). We will keep you updated once we have those matchtimes finalized.

Interesting to note – it was brought to our attention by Sigma that the captime for viaduct mid has been recently (in a ninja patch last week actually) cut in half when you only have a single person standing on it. By making the captime much, much faster, it leads to more frenzied defenses. Some of the strategies seen in the ESEA finals of last season, such as holding in the house on defense, are now much less viable because it takes too much time to get back to the cap point.

In other news – someone decided to blatantly use a autoaim hack in an ESEA server, which was recorded and posted on GotFrag. The person in the video has been subsequently banned, leading many to marvel at the first actual hacker caught by the ESEA client…? or was it?

Interestingly, another guy was discovered and banned by ESEA as well – who happened to be on the roster of the newest invite team, Mobility-Eleven. Whoops. Quite unfortunate for the team which has already been ridiculed extensively for taking up the last Invite spot over teams which may have a better chance at doing well in the division. Will be interesting to see how the season turns out for them, but I wouldn’t exactly hold my breath. But best of luck to them!

So it’s been an up and down week for ESEA – thread after thread has popped up on GotFrag, both predicting its death and pushing for its survival. The biggest push for ESEA though came from an unlikely (or likely?) candidate, mr. blackfoger of blight fame, who was at the center of this controversy last season. He has supposedly helped over 10 teams sign up and get paid for this season of ESEA-O in an effort to get 50 teams signed up to meet ESEA/lpkane’s ultimatum and prevent Season 7 from being canceled.

So why does blackfoger care so much?

Yes according to the schedule, preseason for the 6th season of CEVO TF2 starts this week. Most of you should have gotten your scheduling emails already! Usually the two weeks of preseason is reserved for playtesting new maps – this season, the two maps are koth_ashville, a custom king of the hill type map made by mackey from eMg, and cp_coldfront, which was actually played last season in ESEA but recently became an official TF2 map that Valve put out with the engineer update.

CEVO has put up the custom maps on its site for download, so you can find ashville here.

orz has not scrimmed on this map yet, and we won’t decide on if we want to play preseason until later this week, depending on schedules and such. I’ll try and update this post if we get a scrim in to let you all know how the map is.

So where would one go to get updates about the TF2 community? Why, here at orz.TF2 of course! Ok maybe not. But we’ll try our best to bring you links to articles or tidbits that we find interesting and useful. We have a couple of links on the right, but here are a few more that you can go to for your TF2 fix:

PC Gamer has news on the next big tf2 update. Seems we’ll be getting a new game mode, trading, AND loads of stuff from the polycount competition.

Polycount winners are:

Expect it all early 2011.

We made a post a while ago with some of our favorite addons and such for TF2, but a lot of them have been updated so we’ll mention them again here. And even if you don’t play comp, take a look at these!

The first one is a completely new tool, or website: TF2Demos, started by Cyzer and Casey of EG fame, is going to be the new big resource for finding user-uploaded demos from all over. Although ESEA does provide SourceTV demos for its matches (up to a month still I think), this will be a good alternative for Point-of-View demos and other rarer SourceTV demos. Highly recommended!

The community TF2 HUD has been updated yet again after the engy update, so make sure you get the newest version. For minor updates that break the HUD: simply reinstall the HUD (copy over the resource and scripts folders in your tf2 directory) and that should solve things like ammo count disappearing. Remember to switch between the two available styles by turning on or off minimum HUD mode.

m0re isn’t developing his HUD or config anymore, but it’s still available! Give it a try. Flame also updated the ancient competitive config and its available here, although somewhat out of date. Make sure you look through it and customize it though, there may be a few bugs here and there.

Everyone’s favorite auto-recording plugin, P-REC 2.0.1, is still updated and available here. Just remember to clean out your recorded demos folder every once in a while cause these eat up space if you scrim a lot!

Finally, something for the private servers: SOAP DM 3.0, a deathmatch mod for making pre-scrim waits much more bearable. It’s been recently updated but make sure you have metamod and SourceMod up to date and working as well. These two are general admin and plugin management tools that you can customize your server with.
