EDIT2: Alright kids as Sigma said, the dispenser buff is banned in ESEA. Don’t do it! :) We will refrain from it in the future. BUT if a solly is healing up and resupplying from a dispenser, I’m not going to wait until he’s at 200 or walks away before I heal him…

EDIT: unfortunately, ACE has decided to dispute the match because of us using the dispenser for permanent buffs, and has requested my PoV demo. Thankfully, my P-rec was up and working (I thought I didn’t have it turned on, which is why you see me stop for a few seconds as I frantically try to record again), and for all of you who are interested in seeing a gpit medic PoV, here you go.

Just a quick update from orz: we have now finished our 3rd week of CEVO, with a 2-0 win over ACE on gravelpit. Check out the demo HERE if you want (there is a ~20 minute scrim before that though). Our 2nd week was a forfeit win, and next week we play Top Swaggin’ on koth_viaduct.

Things to note: we do use a dispenser at spawn/B to get our permanent buffs on both attacking and defending. Even chrono gets his during attacking by taking fall damage :D On attack, we run a standard A push, with heavies going to C. If we get a pick early on, we camp the spawn to buy us a little more time. Our scouts then go through connector after capping A (sometimes with Biz, our roamer), and wait for our call for the gun to go down at B. I uber luuser through the door closest to the shady side of B, and wait for him to take down the gun, and then I run along cliff towards the sunny side, where Synthos will be waiting to pick me up. We then rotate around to the rock by the front door, and our scouts hopefully come in and clean up the sniper/engy and any other people still hanging around. Luuser hopefully follows me as we all rotate around, and biz or synthos has to be up on the roof asap.

You can see some miscommunication during a few of our pushes in the demo posted above, where we come in at the wrong times sometime – it’s crucial that you guys practice these pushes so that people get used to making calls and moving accordingly. We scrimmed gpit about 10 times over the past 2 weeks before we got our stuff down to about a 70% success rate, but even against some good fragging/DM teams, we can pull out a few wins because of practicing these strats.

Defending B: You can check out luuser’s trap below :) Gun up on shady, solly on the roof at all times. Biz is default, but when he calls out jumper or that he’s lit, we have Synthos go up to swap or help out. It’s really important that the enemy doesn’t take control of that rooftop to spam down on me standing shady. Our default hold position is by the cliff to pop uber into them as soon as we know they’re there. It makes them use their uber before they can get to the gun. However, you have to watch out for a sniper at B short spawn, where they could snipe you if you stand on the ramp leading up to the cliff.

Another protip: if the gun goes down and the attackers are pressuring, hide in the dispenser, which should be set up against the B cap point house on shady – this way, scouts can’t get to you until the dispenser goes down :)

Attacking C: you don’t see much of it in our scrim/match, but we flash our 3 heavy classes as we uber out either B1 or A2 (the doors closest to the defending spawn), the last solly walks me up to cap. The big thing here: first jumper makes them pop, knocks them down, and then we all clean up the guys on the ground that the enemy medic can’t save, before we all go up again. Works half of the time, depending on where the defenders stand and how much spam we get on them when we jump before they pop uber. And again, scouts come in to cleanup.

Anything else I missed? Any other good strats? Post them in the comments.

You might want to drop the permanent buffs from your strat. Despite the fact that I explained how/recommended that back last season, I have since learned that it’s considered a disputable exploit by ESEA (if done intentionally). Not sure of CEVO’s stance on it.

  2. healbot says:

CEVO has not banned it. I’m not even sure CEVO knows about it.

  3. Leia says:

@Healbot: CEVO’s rules say “all exploits are banned except these specific ones (some stuff on cp_well)” so yeah, I think it’s technically banned by them. Pretty unforgiving language in their rules list there.

  4. thunDEER says:

Yeah ESEA bans that as well as shooting through doors on freight. The thing is though, it’s hard to avoid if your solly drops down onto the dispenser and you want to heal him up hahah. http://www.esportsea.com/index.php?s=content&d=league_rules_tf2#EI

  5. Leia says:

Haha so clearly, we need to find a reason to justify letting Chrono hang out on the B roof, so we can claim that he, too, got his stuck overheals because he accidently fell on top of a dispenser on his way down. :P

  6. Sigma says:

Getting overheals stuck on soldiers cycling to the roof is not an offense because it happens in the course of normal gameplay. Taking fall damage to get them stuck/getting them stuck on attack is definitely against the spirit of the rule.

  7. Leia says:

I so dislike rules based on intent… choose something concrete, why don’t they…

  8. synthos says:

Part of this is that we need to password protect this section of our website. Also, we need to not use this in our setup of attack or defense. Valve will eventually fix this and we will need to play without it. Regardless, Ace got rolled 2-0 on the map. They literally did not make any successful push on the map. If we had not used the dispenser the result would have been the same. CEVO will do what CEVO wants, but we won that match, whatever the decision.

  9. thunDEER says:

Sigma: yeah I know, its just easier IMO to not have a rule about something that’s hazy XD

Syn: no the whole point of the blog is to share strat stuff like this hahah. Comments on the result of that match like that are what we keep on our private group discussions :) If CEVO decides to reverse it then so be it, I’m not going to argue with them. It’s also possible we’ll replay the match if they think it is necessary.

  10. Chrono says:

    I say replay it. I’m starting to like gpit :}

“Fixed a permanent overheal exploit involving dispensers.”

    Ya….
