Here’s the stuff I use:

Mumble. Superior than Teamspeak in every way. Version 1.2 brought lots of nice things as well, most importantly superior voice quality.

PVHUD. A really good HUD that has a auto-update feature. Whenever a tf2 update comes out, all you need to do is run the .exe file, and your HUD updates to the latest version. Excellent for lazy people like myself. Another great feature is the way it shows damage dealt. It displays it above your enemies head, and near the bottom of your screen, above your health. It’s often helpful to be able to glance at damage done on your last shot. m0re’s HUD and communitytf2hud are other great options. Try ‘em all.

tf2compconfiguration A really good all around config. I know some people like to manually code their config, but even if you want to customize your config, this is a good starting place to do so from.  Some of the features I use often are:

  • start-stop demo with f8
  • view ping, interp, loss with f7
  • N to forward spawn
  • autoheal toggle
  • changing interp with – +
  • weapon visibility toggle
  • key bound to rcon_password, as well as the different .cfg’s

POV Record automatically starts recording a demo from your POV when in tournament mode, and both teams become ready. It stops the demo when the game ends. It records the demo with the map, date, and time so you can easily find it later. You can set it so that any killstreaks [user defined number of kills in a life] get recorded with the tick number in a .txt file.

For your server, there’s no reason to NOT have SOAP DM installed. Especially good for warming up while the other team makes up excuses for why their sixth isn’t coming in.

Any tools I’ve missed? What tools do you use?

I use a different HUD, and Sigma has a pretty helpful template thing for class configs, so I might make an addendum post with that later.

Remember to clean out your P-Rec folder in \tf\precdemos or whatever you renamed it to – I just cleaned out 4 GB worth of demos over 2 months!

I use the communityHUD, remember you can use minmode to toggle between two different styles (taken mainly from flame’s and PVHUD).

And does the N to forward spawn still work? I thought that was broken a long time ago. I use flame’s version of the comp config (also on that google code site) but that too hasn’t been updated since Aug 2009 – and I think the fine-tune interp tweak function is still broken :( along with using +reload instead of cl_autoreload 1 and some minor things carried over from Attean’s.

I have a whole set of scripts that are up to date and pretty editable/modular. If anyone is not happy with their current script set I can give you mine and tell you how to use it.

Before they created the wait command disable cvar, I was going to release a script that would change your crosshair color based on rounds loaded… it was pretty sweet, but alas… was not to be

ALSO: Where does one go to get pro demos these days? (kinda a useful thing to know when getting into comp, hence why I am asking it here) I keep hearing that GotFrag’s demo system is broken, and people should use CommFT’s, but where on CommFT? Do people actually upload there regularly?
